West Des Moines Seamless Gutter Installation

Aluminum rolled on your driveway, sized to your roof, hung on sound fascia. Written scope, five-year workmanship warranty.

The short version

One continuous run per side of the house.

West Des Moines gives us three very different kinds of houses, and the gutter answer is different on each one. Valley Junction still has its 1900s stock: steep pitches, narrow eaves, original fascia that has been carrying water for a century. North of Grand the streets are lined with cottonwood and silver maple, and those trees fill a trough faster than anything else we deal with. South of Mills Civic the houses are newer, and what we usually find there is builder-grade sectional gutter starting to weep at the seams.

That last one surprises people in the newer developments. Sectional gutter joins every ten feet, each joint gets a bead of sealant, and each bead has a working life. Iowa runs water through those joints all spring, freezes them in January, thaws them in February, and does it again. Somewhere around year eight a seam opens, water runs down the back, and the fascia behind it starts going soft.

Seamless takes the middle joints out. We bring the coil and the brake to your driveway and roll one unbroken length for each run on the house. The only joints left are corners and end caps, where we can seal properly and reach again if we ever need to. That is most of the reason a seamless run outlives a sectional one by decades here.

Sizing is the other half. Most homes here are fine on a 5-inch K-style profile. But a steep Valley Junction roof, or one of those wide unbroken planes in the newer subdivisions, delivers water to the eave faster than a small trough can move it, and gets 6-inch with 3×4 downspouts instead. People misjudge this constantly. A gutter overshooting during a spring gully-washer is usually not clogged, just too small for the roof above it.

Then there is the wood. On older houses we look hard at the fascia first, because a gutter is only as good as the board it hangs on. If a hanger will not bite, we say so at the walkthrough and put the repair in the scope. Better to have that conversation in your driveway than to screw new aluminum into rotted trim and let you find out next winter.

Downspouts get their own thought on the flatter clay lots, where water sits instead of running off. We place drops clear of your walks and beds, then carry the discharge far enough out that it is not soaking the foundation. If you want the trough to stay clear under those maples, ask about gutter guards while we are out. If the real problem is January ice at the eave, that is an attic issue, and attic insulation is the honest fix.

How the work happens

Same order of operations, every house.

01

Walk the perimeter

We measure every fascia run and ask what you have watched the water do in a hard rain. You know your house better than we do on day one.

02

Written scope

On paper or email inside a day: linear feet, profile size, color, downspout count, hanger spacing. What the scope says is what the invoice says.

03

Fascia first

Anything soft behind the old gutter comes out before new aluminum goes up. Common on the older streets, and never something we paper over.

04

Rolled in your driveway

The brake truck forms coil into one continuous length per run, cut to your measurements. Nothing arrives in ten-foot pieces to be joined on the house.

05

Hung and pitched

Hidden hangers into solid wood every 18 to 24 inches, each run pitched toward its drop so nothing stands in the trough after a storm.

06

Water sent away

Drops routed clear of walks and beds, extensions where a flat lot would pool water against the foundation. The basement benefits as much as the roof.

07

Color matched

Baked-on factory finish pulled to your trim, siding, or roof. We bring options to the walkthrough so you choose against the actual house, not a screen.

08

Walked and swept

We go around the house with you, point out every drop, hand-test the seams, magnet-sweep the grass. Old material leaves on our trailer.

09

You keep our number

Christian answers the phone after the job the same as before it. One name on the invoice means one call if anything ever needs a look.

Downspouts get the same attention as the run itself. On the flat clay lots south of Mills Civic, water that drops straight at the foundation has nowhere to go, so we place outlets where the grade actually falls away and add extensions where it does not. On the older streets it usually means moving a downspout off a corner the last installer picked for convenience. Small decision, big difference in a wet April.

Routing

About 35 minutes from our shop in Woodward.

We run West Des Moines work alongside the rest of our metro route, so getting out for a look does not turn into a scheduling project. See more of our West Des Moines work or browse the gallery.

Seamless Gutter Installation · West Des Moines, IA · FAQ

What homeowners ask us here.

Do I need 5-inch or 6-inch gutter on my house?
It comes down to how much roof drains into each run. Plenty of houses here do fine on 5-inch. Steep Valley Junction pitches and the wide planes south of Mills Civic usually want 6-inch with 3×4 downspouts. We measure before we recommend.
What if the fascia behind my old gutter is rotted?
We tell you at the walkthrough and put the repair in the written scope. North of Grand we find soft trim fairly often, since decades of overflow soak the board. New aluminum on punky wood only buys a year or two.
How is seamless different from what the builder put on?
Sectional gutter joins every ten feet, and every joint is a future leak. Iowa freeze and thaw works them open over a few winters. We roll one continuous length per run, so the only joints are corners and end caps.
Can you match the color to my trim?
Yes. The coil comes in a wide range of baked-on finishes, so we can pull to your trim, siding, or roof. That finish is factory applied rather than painted on site, which is why it holds color through Iowa sun and winter.
How long does the install take?
Most homes here are a single day, and larger or multi-story houses can run into a second. You do not need to be home. We do need driveway room for the brake truck and trailer, so park on the street that morning.
Will new gutters stop my ice dams?
Not by themselves. Ice dams start in the attic, where escaping heat melts snow that refreezes at the cold eave. Correct gutter and drop placement keep meltwater moving, but the real fix is insulation and air sealing. We look at both.
Where will the downspouts go?
We locate drops at the walkthrough, working around walkways, patios, and beds, then run them so water lands clear of the foundation. Flat clay lots hold water against the house, so those often get extensions to where the grade carries it away.
